Employers commonly require pre-employment, post-injury, reasonable suspicion and random drug and alcohol testing. Drug testing can be done with either a hair or urine sample. A hair sample can often detect drug use from months ago. Hair testing is always a send out and takes more time to result. Urine tests are most widely used because a negative result can be determined within 15 minutes, decreasing the amount of time the employee is away from work.
